For 40 years, Alice Gerrard has been an inspirational figure in the world of American roots music. A pioneering voice of women in bluegrass, Gerrard’s seminal early work with Appalachian singer Hazel Dickens on Rounder Records and Smithsonian Folkways directly encouraged multiple generations of artists, from bluegrass stars like Tim O’Brien and Hot Rize, to country stalwarts like The Judds and Emmylou Harris, even Bob Dylan! Throughout her long and legendary career, Gerrard has performed and recorded with some of the most cherished names in bluegrass and old-time music.
